Part 4

Leveraging AI and meeting Frank Ocean level demand

Transcript

Dominic Rogers: In 2021 there was the decision that we wanted to really embrace a brand experience and to do that we needed to decouple the frontend so we could embrace some of the new technologies that were available to us. We relaunched Mammut.com as a brand experience.

It’s important for users to be able to find our site, to be able to browse our products, see what we’re about, see what the brand is doing.

Innovation is a big part of Mammut - all aspects. So, whether it’s in hardware or in apparel but also in digital for eCommerce and so on - as well as for developer tools. Our developers really enjoy working with Netlify for example but also all the other modern tools that we have which are extremely well documented and they make sense and they integrate well with each other because it just means that we can move really quickly when it comes to making changes.

When it comes to AI, there’s obviously it’s extremely fast moving. The only instance where we’re currently using it now is for dynamic re-ranking. So, one of our tools provides this for our products. So it will identify which products are trending and which ones are not performing as well, and then it will take that into account when it comes to delivering the ranking of the products on specific PLPs but also search based on the query.

So we work with an agency, Built in Amsterdam, for a lot of development work and design work and using Netlify is really helpful for the way that we can collaborate together. It’s super easy just being able to generate deployment previews for every feature that we’re developing. And we can then take it to QA, we can also check the design, and then we can approve it quickly and end up being able to deploy it quickly is what’s most valuable to the business.

The developer experience is of course super important and our developers always say Netlify is a smooth and intuitive interface and enables them to really focus on doing other things than doing deployments.

Combining Contentful with Netlify has been a good experience overall. Contentful is a great headless Content Management Platform and it integrates seamlessly with Netlify.

This combination allows us to deliver content as and when we need it, at speed, and then also to ensure that we have the scalability when its required.

So Mammut doesn’t always do sales on Black Fridays but last year we did do one and it was the biggest day we’ve ever had on Mammut.com and it went completely smoothly. Netlify was completely responsive. We even had newsletters going out, which was generating huge spikes, and there were no issues at all. So in that respect, we were well prepared. The situation that we couldn’t prepare for which was when Frank Ocean wore a Mammut jacket at Coachella and that generated a lot of interest from new users all over the world to the site and again we had no issues and it was smooth.

Mammut’s digital presence over the next few years will continue to grow as we invest in the brand and products and so on.And we continue to grow globally, of course, then we’re going to continue reaching new markets, new customers, and therefore Mammut.com will have more users.

Chris Bach: We are incredibly proud to be the chosen vendor and partner of Mammut as they build out their digital experiences.
